What is a postpartum doula?
A person who gives non-clinical support during the weeks after a birth. The Oklahoma Health Care Authority says doulas provide emotional, physical and informational support.
What does a postpartum doula not do?
Doulas do not provide medical care. Your doctor, midwife or nurse handle that.
When should I start looking?
Many families begin in pregnancy, because calendars can fill. If your baby is already here, ask now.
Is this site a doula agency?
No. We are a referral service. We do not employ doulas or schedule their visits.
What happens to my information?
We may refer or sell it to a doula or other provider, who may contact you. The referral and marketing disclosure explains this in full.
Do I have to hire the doula who contacts me?
No. Talk to as many as you like and decide for yourself.
What should I do if I feel overwhelmed or unsafe?
Contact your medical provider. You can call or text 988, which is free, confidential and open at all hours. The National Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 1-833-852-6262 is a free resource for pregnant and postpartum people, though it is not for crises.
Does SoonerCare cover a doula?
For eligible members, yes, within limits the state sets. The SoonerCare doula page has the details.
How much will it cost?
It varies. The cost page shows two published examples to compare.
Can a doula help if I had a cesarean birth?
A doula can support your recovery at home with practical help. They do not replace the instructions from your surgeon or provider.
Can I use a doula if I am not on SoonerCare?
Yes. Many families pay privately. Ask each doula for their rates.
